Thailand Christmas Holidays

Celebrating 25 Years of tour excellence
While not a religious holiday in Thailand, which is a majority Buddhist country, the Thai people still love to get into the jovial Christmas spirit. In Bangkok and some other large cities, all the malls and big hotels are lit up with lights, draped in decorations and playing Christmas songs and you’ll spot towering Christmas trees and festive markets as you explore. Then there is the lantern ceremony on Christmas Eve – a quintessentially Thai way of celebrating – and a traditional feast on Christmas Day, where families come together to share delicious Thai foods like curry and rice. While it might seem strange to see all these festive things in gloriously sunny weather (with average temperatures of 27°), trust us when we say it’s really easy to get used to, especially when you’re getting to discover some of the many treasures of Thailand too.

Special Festive Experiences on Christmas in Thailand

Explore Thailand’s highlights, from the vibrant energy of capital Bangkok, the enigmatic ruins of Ayutthaya and the tragic beauty of the bridge on the River Kwai to the spectacular landscapes and laidback vibes of the highland cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. As you go, there’ll be a series of wonderfully immersive experiences, to give you an authentic taste of the local culture like visiting a floating market, meeting an indigenous hilltribe community and a relaxing bamboo raft ride.

Then, over Christmas, you’re in for some treats, with Christmas morning spent at a sanctuary for rescued elephants, where you’ll meet and learn all about these magnificent residents, then you’ll be able to savour local flavours with a Christmas feast at The House by Ginger, a beautifully converted colonial mansion in Chiang Mai. Boxing Day brings the opportunity to learn some local culinary tips, with a fun cooking class where you’ll prepare delicious traditional dishes.
