Celebrating 25 Years of tour excellence

Once the capital of Japan, Kyoto today is home to no less than 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites making it a haven for culture vultures and history enthusiasts. The architecture in Kyoto was influenced by the counterparts in Tang and Song Dynasties in China, and there are a multitude of ancient architectures including over 1000 Buddhist temples, shrines, palaces, courtyards, and streets all over the city.

You can explore the tranquil temples including Kinkakuji Temple, Kiyomizu Temple and Ryoanji Temple – which are the best sights to experience unique buildings, beautiful gardens and Buddhism in Japan. Nijo Castle was the dwelling of the shogun, Tokugawa Leyasu, which is famous for various breeds of sakura and nightingale floors. Also enjoying the traditional performances by geishas around Gion District is truly a special experience every visitor should have in the city.

Of course, Kyoto is a dynamic city as well and you can see quite a few stores, cafes, tea houses, and distinctive shops on the both sides of the streets. Few cities, of this size, offer such a range of excellent restaurants. Not only will you find the entire spectrum of Japanese food, from impossibly refined cuisine known as kaiseki to hearty plebeian fare like rāmen. There’s also a wide range of French, Italian and Chinese restaurants. Best of all, many of Kyoto’s restaurants are in traditional wooden buildings, where you can admire intimate private gardens while you eat.

While the rest of Japan has fully adopted modernity, the old ways persist in Kyoto and traditional rituals can be seen throughout the day. Watch the old Kyoto ladies emerge from their traditional townhouses to ladle water onto their stoops, visit an old shopping street, and explore the ancient speciality shops including tofu sellers, fishmongers, and tea merchants, and at the end of the day, join the locals at a public bath to soak away the worries of the day.

Review for Japan Uncovered
Great credit to Wendy Wu for a superb guided tour of Japan. Beginning in Osaka (good), Kyoto (better), Hiroshima (excellent), Kanazawa (excellent), Nagano (excellent) and Tokyo (super), the tour offered a fine variety of interesting vista and experiences.
They managed to pack a huge amount into each days sightseeing without putting undue pressure on any member of the group. Kudos here to a truly outstanding guide Taichi, whose English was faultless, attention to the group unwavering, had a great sense of humour and was a fountain of knowledge.
When travelling to Japan, you need to maintain an open mind about food. The dining experience is vastly different to our Western tastes, but the quality was very good at all times, even if our taste buds didn’t necessarily appreciate all that was put before us. My wife is coeliac, a condition unknown in Japan, yet her dietary needs were catered to better than any other trip we have done.
Is it worth the cost and jet lag?
A resounding YES.

Review for Japan & the Scenic South
This tour is superb. The pace is very easy, so suitable for slower walkers! The food is very varied, a few western cuisine meals but more Japanese ( local) meals, a lot of variety. I love Japanese food, so was very happy. Visiting Kyushu ( the southern island) is a rare destination on most Japanese tours and indeed we did not see any foreign tourist there. When we crossed to Hiroshima and headed to Kyoto and Tokyo, we saw other foreign tourist groups. The sights are both inspiring and even awesome and I would highly recommend this tour.

Review for Journey through Japan
We had been planning to travel on this tour since 2020 & eventually made it this year.
The wait was certainly worth it & all the places visited and sightseeing opportunities we experienced exceeded our expectations.
Michiko, our guide was brilliant, very knowledgeable and had a wonderful sense of humour.
The whole tour was well paced throughout but we would have liked an extra night in Kyoto making the tour 15 days as opposed to 14.

Review for Japan Uncovered
My husband and I thought this was one of the best holidays we have ever had. It was very well organized with us seeing the cherrry blossoms, riding the bullet train, seeing the macaque monkeys, Mount Fuji and making paper. We saw all three capital cities - Nara, Kyoto and Tokyo and learned all about the history. We even learned a little Japanese - all thanks to the excellent guide we had. We enjoyed the Japanese food and it suited my stomach, even though at times I was not sure what I was eating! I loved the heated toilet seats. Can't say I was very keen on matcha tea.

Review for ESSENTIAL JAPAN (JEWELS OF JAPAN)
Service rating : The tour in Japan was fantastic, everything was well organised and the sites are just amazing.
The service beforehand was ok, a bit frustrating at times to wait for Wendy Wu to find the cheapest flight!
Product : The tour was fantastic, probably one of the best tours I have done so far (and I do travel a lot). All the activities, hotels , the full 100% cherry blossoms in Kyoto and Himeji castle, Fuji in the sun and in clouds, the charming Maiko, the variety of food, the group who made me laugh all the time, and the lovely Akiko, our guide were wonderful.

Review for ESSENTIAL JAPAN (JEWELS OF JAPAN)
Service rating : All good -Director very attentive

Product : Food O.K but a littke repetitive for us,but am aware that others were very satisfied
hotel in Kyoto could have been more central as we did not feel we had time to access it on the last day before p.m departure
