Running along
Morocco’s eastern border with Algeria, on the very western edge of the Sahara Desert, Erg Chebbi (also known as the ‘Sea of Dunes’) is an extraordinarily scenic expanse of rocky desert with towering, wind-formed, ochre-shaded sand dunes. The most easily accessible dunes in the country, Erg Chebbi is a popular destination to have an authentic desert experience, with options to go on camel treks, explore by 4x4 and relax at peaceful desert camps for a (luxurious) taste of the way of life of the nomadic Berber people. Erg Chebbi is at its most magical at sunrise and sunset, when the rose gold dunes, some standing as tall as 150 metres, shift gently through shades of orange, pink and purple with the passage of the sun.
