Bodhnath stupa dominates Kathmandu's skyline; it is one of the largest stupas in the world, and Nepal's most scared. The stupa is built to perfect proportions and designed to represent the stages on the path to enlightenment with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha gazing out across the city from its golden central tower. On a daily basis hundreds of pilgrims flock to the stupa to make a clockwise ‘kora’ of the dome, spinning prayer wheels as they go. Around the base of Bodhnath you’ll find a maze of streets full of workshops and monasteries whilst the smell of yak butter permeates the air.
