Reached from the port of Callao in northern Lima, the Palomino Islands consist of 4 islets. Each with a rugged rocky coastline of natural caves and harbours, they provide the perfect habitat for colonies of sea lions, the occasional Humboldt penguin and plenty of seabirds.
Here you can spot red-legged cormorants, boobies and Peruvian pelicans, and watch the sea lions play and zip through the water. The cruise out to the islands is just as fascinating, with the chance to see fisherman hauling in their catch and, in the waters around El Camotal, ships wrecked in the shallow waters.
