Set peacefully on the shore of Bogambara Lake, the golden roof of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth is resplendent against its backdrop of wooded hills. Sri Lanka’s most scared Buddhist shrine, the temple was built to house an object of abject devotion to many Sri Lankans – Buddha’s tooth. Rebuilt and embellished many times over the years since it was first built in the 16th century, the temple today is a mixture of additions by made by devout kings and presidents. There are many temples and museums to explore on the complex including the World Buddhism Museum.
